The so called snow mount is by far the warmest and most weatherproof emergency shelter. It can be built by stacking all available gear on a pile and covering it with half a metre of snow and ice. After snow has compacted one hour later, a hole must be dug and the gear retrieved. Then the cavity can be enlarged to form a spacious snow cave.
