Discovery Hut, Hut Point, Ross Island, Antarctica.
This hut was also built by Robert F. Scott for the Nimrod expedition of 1907. It was during this expedition that Shackleton made it furthest south (in 1907) and established the Beardmore Glacier route over the Transantarctic mountains. Shackleton's expedition also discovered the magnetic south pole and made the first ascent of Mt. Erebus.
Built after the design of an Australian summer cottage (designed to keep the heat out), the hut didn't perform very well in the cold climate, and was not very popular among the expeditions. Parties only used it as temporary or emergency accommodation and preferred the more comfortable hut at Cape Evans.
